SMU College Music Audition Preparation Workshops

For High School Juniors and Seniors

These FREE two-hour sessions are offered to high school juniors and seniors preparing for their college music auditions. Parents are welcome to attend as well, though only students will be in the workshop. These workshops will be a hybrid of a masterclass and workshop. Faculty will work with individual students in a group setting, as well as offer guidance on how students can have a successful college audition.

Immediately following the workshops there will be a 30-minute Q&A with SMU’s Music Admission Director to go over the college admission, scholarship, and financial aid process.

Students should be prepared to play an excerpt or piece that would be required of a college music audition. Music Composition registrants should be prepared to bring several scores of their own compositions. For an example of what pieces to prepare, please refer to SMU’s Undergraduate Music Audition Requirements here.

Priority of performing in the workshops will be given to seniors, and in the order of which registrations were received. Students will receive confirmation of whether they have been selected to play in the workshop several days prior to the event.
