M.M. in Performance - Orchestral Instrument

The Master of Music in Performance prepares students to pursue a career in performance or to undertake further studies at the doctoral level, positioning them to become college studio professors. The degree is completed in four semesters of study with a minimum of 30 credits required for graduation.

Students applying to graduate music programs at SMU Meadows School of the Arts must perform an audition on their principal instrument (includes Voice) as outlined in the Required Graduate Audition Repertoire section of this website.

At least three credit hours of the required coursework in MUHI and/or MUTH must be from 6000-level courses that are not double-listed.

MPED 6305 Introduction to Instrumental Pedagogy (Guitar majors take MPED 6303 Guitar Pedagogy; string majors may substitute MPED 6308.) 3
Electives: chosen with adviser's approval. Up to five credits may be in large ensemble, chamber ensemble or repertory class. Due to the increased performance studies requirement for percussion majors, they have the option of six elective credit hours. 8-3
