Prior to joining SMU in 2007, Abigail Smith held positions in administration, business, finance, operations and human resource management. She began her career in the Lyle School of Engineering working on major events and initiatives and supporting two associate deans. In 2008, she was promoted to assistant director of graduate recruitment for Lyle’s distance, military and campus programs, where she was able to grow the program and create long-term relationships throughout the country.
In 2013, Smith joined the Division of Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship in Meadows as the assistant director. Some of Smith’s responsibilities for the department include advising undergraduate students, scheduling courses, managing financial and administrative matters along with supporting the National Center for Arts Administration’s budgetary, administrative and scheduling needs.
Smith has a passion for process improvement, quality metrics and organization. She enjoys being part of a program that helps students gain the skills they will need for careers in arts management or to begin their own entrepreneurial venture.
