Ashley Whitt

Ashley Whitt is an educator and visual artist. As director of visual resources at SMU Meadows School of the Arts, she provides visual research support to faculty and students in the Department of Art History.

Whitt researches technologies including 3D printing, ArcGIS mapping and virtual reality, and how these technologies can be utilized in the classroom. She instructs students on best practices for developing, creating and organizing professional visual research materials in the form of presentations, imagery, photography and video.

Whitt graduated from Texas Woman's University where she earned an M.F.A. in Studio Art (Photography) in 2012. She graduated from UT Arlington with a B.F.A. in Studio Art (Photography) in 2009. From 2010 to 2018, Whitt taught photography courses at multiple universities and colleges in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and most recently served as a full-time lecturer at Texas Christian University.

Recently, Whitt’s creative research has been featured in several publications including The Hand Magazine, Lenscratch, Lensculture, Light Leaked and interviews in Fragmentary and Deep Red Press. Her work has been in multiple shows at galleries including Kirk Hopper Fine Art (Dallas), Box 13 Art Space (Houston), Photosynthesis Gallery (East Hartford, Conn.) and PhotoPlace Gallery (Middlebury, Vt.). Her work has been shown locally, nationally and internationally including Texas, Vermont, California, Connecticut, China and India. She is also the president of 500X Gallery, the oldest artist-run gallery in Texas.
