This fall semester world‐renowned artist Rick Lowe is teaching Art and Social Practice and will focus on his latest project in Dallas, Trans.lation: Vickery Meadow, originally commissioned by the Nasher Sculpture Center in 2013. Students will combine practice with theory, learning about socially engaged art practices through the case study of a local project based in a neighborhood with a diverse and rich mix of cultures where 27 languages converge. The three main projects that students will be involved in include art workshops, a pop‐up marketplace, and three “white cubes” for exhibitions. Rick Lowe is mostly known for Project Row Houses (PRH), which he founded two decades ago. It has created a blueprint for using urban renewal practices within an artistic context to enrich lives.
