Elena Andro

Adjunct Lecturer

Elena Andro is an adjunct lecturer at SMU who teaches courses in strategic brand management. She has served as manager of communications for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) since 2009. Her career includes extensive work with Fortune 500 corporations, PR/advertising agencies and business startups. She spent six years as a bank marketing executive with Capital One and Wachovia.

As an account service executive at the Bloom, Temerlin McClain and Dieste agencies, she profitably managed client accounts by achieving marketing goals for brands such as Essilor and AT&T. Andro also ran her own agency for six years. Her clients included Nissan North America, Sprint and Quaker State. She is fully bilingual and led Spanish-language campaigns for several of her clients.

Andro served on the board of the Dallas Advertising League (AAF Dallas chapter) for eight years and was the organization’s president in 2000. She also has served on the board of the Dallas chapter of International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and the programs committee for the American Marketing Association. She is a frequent judge for the IABC Quill awards for chapters throughout the U.S., as well as for the National Association of Government Communicator’s national Blue Pencil & Gold Screen awards.

Andro served three terms as a commissioner of the arts for the City of Plano and serves on the marketing committee for the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Her pro bono marketing work also includes the Anita Martinez Ballet Folklorico, SMU Young Alumni, Texas Diversity Council, Dallas Food Bank, SPCA and other non-profits. She has served as a mentor to students and coworkers throughout her career, and served as the president of DART’s Women in Leadership organization.

Andro married her SMU sweetheart, Richard, and together they enjoy traveling, cooking and planning family adventures.
