    SMU is one of 96 universities classified as High Research Activity institutions by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.  To strengthen support for U.S. and global initiatives, SMU has dramatically increased its supercomputing capability, supporting projects ranging from sciences to business, to engineering and eduction.  A research partner also with DFW instititions, such as UT Southwestern Medical Center, The University of Texas at Dallas and The University of Texas at Arlington, SMU's faculty share and create knowledge.
