Results and Awards

Welcome to the 2019-2020 Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair! This year’s fair will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Centennial Hall, Fair Park in Dallas.

Student Awards

Category Judging

Beal Bank awards cash prizes for 1st – 3rd place in each category judged, with 4th place awarded for larger categories.  Junior Division prizes of up to $175 are awarded along with Senior Division prizes up to $300.  Honorable Mentions are also awarded during Category judging. 

DRSEF uses all of the 22 ISEF categories.  Smaller categories are combined as needed.  

Grand Prize Judging

Grand Prize judges evaluate the winning projects from each Category and award Grand Prizes for Life Science and Physical Science.  

Special Award Judging

Special Awards judges visit projects within their specialty and award prizes such as cash, vouchers and merchandise.

Teacher Awards

SMU Teacher Awards

SMU awards $4,000 in cash prizes to teachers based on the number, performance and success rate of their students at the fair.  The awards are:

  • $300 each to the top 5 teachers in the Junior Division
  • $300 each to the top 5 teachers in the Senior Division 
  • $100 each to the top 10 runners-up 

Awards are presented at the Junior and Senior banquets.  The 2019 SMU Teachers Award recipients are listed here.  

Fluor First Teacher Awards

Fluor awards $1000 in cash prizes to teachers from schools that have not entered students at the fair in the previous 3 years.  If no new schools enter students, the award will be given to a teacher who has not entered students before.  Awards are based on the number, performance and success rate of a teacher’s students at the fair.  The awards are:

  • $500 to the top eligible teacher in the Junior Division 
  • $500 to the top eligible teacher in the Senior Division

Banquets

1st through 4th place winners from Category judging and winners of Special Awards are invited to the Junior or Senior Awards Banquet at Southern Methodist University.  The banquet is free for each student and their teacher.  Registration for the 2020 Junior and Senior Awards Banquet will open after the fair.

Advancing to Other Fairs

1st – 4th place winners from Category judging advance to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair
 
The top ten percent of Junior Division are invited to enter Broadcom MASTERS, an international science fair for Middle School students.  Invitations are issued at the awards banquet.
 
Winners and runners-up from the Grand Prize round in the Senior Division advance to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, with attendance sponsored by Beal Bank. 
 
Students may also be eligible to enter competitions such as Regeneron Science Talent Search, a science competition for high school seniors affiliated with ISEF.
