Application Process / Checklist
Your application, supporting documents, and personal interview are very important in the selection process. We hope that you will provide us with the most complete and honest picture of yourself. After candidate applications are completed, submitted, and reviewed by the Cox MBA Admissions Committee, evaluative interviews are conducted by invitation only.

To submit your application to the M.S. in Engineering/MBA program at SMU, please email your statement of interest (details below) to If your M.S. in Engineering program does not require a GRE, please include a GRE/GMAT score report (unofficial report accepted for application) taken within the last five years. If you have not taken an entrance exam, please schedule a date to take either the GRE or GMAT and include your test date in your application email.

The Cox MBA Admissions Committee will use the following components to evaluate your candidacy for the program. 

  • Your completed application to the Lyle School of Engineering
  • Statement of Interest (see requested statement of interest information below)
  • GRE or GMAT score report taken within the last five years; see below for more detailed information

What has led you to pursue a graduate business degree? Please identify your short and long-term career objectives, an explanation of your decision to pursue this degree at this point in your life and your specific interest in the Cox School of Business. (500 word limit.)


An entrance exam (GRE/GMAT) is required for all applicants to the Cox School of Business. The Cox MBA Admissions Committee will consider an exam waiver for SMU Lyle undergraduates with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
