Collaborate with a Librarian

We collaborate with faculty in a variety of ways to help students learn research skills. Please let us know how we can support your instruction.

Information Literacy Instruction

Contact a librarian to develop an in-class session in collaboration with you. On the request form, choose from the list of topics or request a customized session. Submit requests, including a copy of the syllabus/assignment, at least 2 weeks in advance for adequate planning.

The Business Library at the Cox School of Business is here for you. We will work with you to develop targeted instruction that aligns with course assignments. Questions for us? Request a course-specific research guide with appropriate resources and instruction for a research assignment. Here is an example of a custom course guide for advertising.

Librarians are available to meet with individuals or small groups of students by appointment.

To notify students of this service, copy this into your syllabus:

Request a one-on-one appointment (smu.edu/libraries/librarians/) with our subject librarian if you need more help with your research. Schedule appointments at least 48 business hours in advance.

For Cox School of Business faculty, copy this into your syllabus:

Librarians from the Business Library (150 Maguire) are available to meet with any student or student group by phone (214-768-4496), in-person, or by email (http://www.smu.edu/Cox/CurrentStudents/BusinessLibrary/AskALibrarian). You can also make an appointment. Anytime the Business Library is open, there is a librarian available to help.

Work with your subject librarian to create effective assignments and assessments that enhance students’ information literacy skills. Find ideas for alternate research assignments or for solving student research problems.

Workshops address research skills, tools, and other relevant topics outside of class time. Request a workshop or promote current workshops to your students.

The Business Library offers many types of research workshops for students throughout the fall and spring semesters. Our workshops are open to the SMU community. Read more about them on our Business Library workshops page.

GIS (geographic information system) puts data together with maps, allowing for the visualization and analysis of trends. Schedule a workshop for faculty or students on using ArcGIS Online GIS mapping software.
