NLJ: SMU Law Ranks #21 in Nation for Employment

Excellent news on the hiring front!  The employment statistics for the Class of 2015 have recently been released, and we are pleased to announce another year of very strong employment.  According to the report filed with the American Bar Association, more than 85 percent of the class of 2015 has secured a full-time job that either requires bar passage or for which a J.D. degree is preferred.  SMU Dedman School of Law ranks 21st in the nation, according to the recent report by the National Law Journal, for the placement of 2015 graduates in full-time, long-term jobs that require bar passage and are non-law school funded – “the gold standard for lawyer jobs.”

The employment report, available online, was prepared in accordance with requirements of the American Bar Association and includes summary data about the employment status of the 239 graduates in the class of 2015, measuring employment 10 months after graduation. The overall employment rate for the class, including all employment types and graduate school, is over 91 percent.

“We are so proud of our graduates in the class of 2015,” said Karen Sargent, Assistant Dean for Career Services.  “Graduates worked closely with our office and dedicated the time and energy into their job searches that lead to good employment opportunities.  I credit our outstanding career services team -- Linda Hale, Rey Rodriguez and Beth Lee -- for their commitment to our students’ careers. Alumni and other attorneys in the legal community have been very helpful in assisting our students and graduates with career development and have been a tremendous asset to them, both in hiring and referral to opportunities.”
