Tania Siddiqi joined the Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center in March 2023 as a Fellow. She received her J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law. Prior to attending law school, Tania received her B.A. from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she initiated an anthropological research project on the Migration of Muslim women from India to Pakistan during the Partition of India in 1947.
During Tania’s law school career, she was a Deason Summer Scholar. Tania interned at Movement Law Lab’s Global Network of Movement Lawyers, where she attended consultations with members of the United Nations’s Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and contributed to generating transnational legal strategies to expand COVID-19 treatment access to people living in the Global South. She also drafted a white paper about racism, health disparities, and health outcomes. Tania worked with the Cornell Center on the Death Penalty Worldwide on the #SaveLisa Social Media Campaign, an initiative to stop the execution of Lisa Montgomery. She also served as a Law Student Clerk at the Office of Capital and Forensic Writs.
