In the ruins of a brutal civil war, a daughter sits with her mother’s shattered crown. The Kingdom, segregated into a strict caste-system, struggles to sustain a poverty-stricken land. The daughter, sword and crown in hand, infiltrates the Gilded Empress’ decadent palace, seeking revenge. She battles waves of the queen’s minions, adopting her enemies’ combat styles for victory. With each battle, the daughter realizes her potential to be empress. Upon slaughtering the Gilded Empress’ generals, the daughter arrives in the queen’s throne room, empowered with her newly found combat skills. By slaying the empress, the land returns to order, safe under the rule of the benevolent princess.
Fowl Play Games is proud to present Reign of Blades, a Singleplayer action/adventure, hack-and-slash. Developed over the course of six months, our team strived to create an intuitive and engaging combat system. Facing the challenges of art style revisions, team size limitations, and the creation of narrative without the use of text, Fowl Play Games came together to ship a game with over forty-five minutes of play-time. One of the key goals we achieved while creating Reign of Blades was making the melee combat feel responsive and visceral. Online testimonials and player feedback validate the many hours our team spent creating this experience. Through cross-discipline collaboration, we learned the ins and outs of what it truly takes to ship a game.
