 9 pm – 11 pm  Night at the Club Indoor Performance Center on Bishop Boulevard
An involvement fair featuring over 100 student organizations, SMU departments, and opportunities to get connected on the SMU campus. Making your mark at SMU starts with a Night at the Club!
Sunday, August 26th

Opening Convocation

McFarlin Auditorium

One of the University's most symbolic traditions is the Rotunda Passage, in which many students begin their lives at SMU by processing through the Rotunda of Dallas Hall during SMU's Opening Convocation. The full impact of this symbolic entrance to SMU is not felt until graduation in which seniors reverse the passage, concluding their time at SMU.If you are living off campus or on campus in upperclassmen housing, please meet at the Flagpole on the Main Quad at 4:45 pm. When the Ware Residential COmmons group approaches, join the line to participate in Rotunda Passage and Opening Convocation.

Welcome to SMU! Learn the secrets of success and escape the transfer shock. Come and share in the discussion of frequently asked questions and concerns from transfer students such as… “SMU is different from my previous school”, “How will I make friends as a transfer student?”, “My classes are challenging; where can I go to get help?” Learn about the many resources available to you including tutors, the writing center, and learning strategies workshops to upgrade your skills and make the most of your SMU experience.

This dinner will not only satisfy your hunger, but also your curiosity. Transfer students mingle while munching, swapping stories and making new friends. Mustang Transfers is a great way to get involved in the community and meet new people! Also learn about the connections you can make and events to attend through your affiliation with Ware Commons.

Show your school pride by cheering on the Mustangs at the first football home game of the semester! Don't miss the festivities on Bishop Boulevard prior to the game.

Celebration of Lights

Main Quad

The ceremony will feature student musicians performing songs of the season, SMU President R. Gerald Turner reading the Christmas story from the New Testament and the lighting of the SMU Christmas tree.The celebration ends with participants bathed in the light of the candles they hold as they sing "Silent Night." The public is invited to attend and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies before the ceremony begins.

Rotunda Passage

One of the University's most symbolic traditions is the Rotunda Passage, which includes both a processional and recessional. Many students begin their lives at SMU by processing through the Rotunda of Dallas Hall to Opening Convocation held in McFarlin Auditorium, symbolizing their entrance to SMU. Hot cider will be served!

MLK Day of Service

Once per semester, SMU invites the community to participate together in a day of service. MLK Day of Service works with a wide range of Dallas organizations, and past projects have included organizing food and clothes pantries, cleaning outdoor recreation areas, painting and restoring shelters, building accessibility ramps for homes, and helping teachers organize their classrooms.
