Faculty RSVP
The deadline to RSVP is Friday, December 1, 2023. In order to attend the ceremony, faculty must RSVP.
Security Screening and Prohibited Items
All faculty are screened with a hand wand or metal detector; all bags are checked.
Do not bring any of the following prohibited items, including but not limited to, animals (except service animals), backpacks, binocular cases, briefcases, camera bags, cans, cinch bags, computer bags, coolers, diaper bags, fanny packs, firearms, flags, glass items, guns, inflated balloons, knives of any size and type, laser pointers, luggage, noisemakers, purses larger than a small clutch, radios, seat cushions with zippers, pockets or compartments, selfie sticks, signs, stun guns, throwing objects, umbrellas (unless threat of rain or raining), and weapons.
All bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and may not exceed 12 X 6 X12 inches. Bags may be one-gallon clear plastic resealable storage bags. Small clutch purses with or without straps, no larger than 8.5 X 5.5 inches, are permitted. The clutch does not have to be clear and may be carried separately or within an approved plastic bag. Items that are medically necessary are evaluated individually.
Faculty Breakfast and Procession
Prior to the ceremony, there will be a faculty breakfast beginning at 7:45 a.m. in the Miller Champions Club in the Miller Event Center, directly inside the entrance to the Coliseum on Binkley Avenue. If you want to attend the breakfast, please RSVP by clicking here. The deadline to RSVP for the breakfast is Friday, December 8, by 4:00 p.m.
Faculty will assemble in academic dress no later than 8:45 a.m. in Miller Champions Club. The faculty process to the floor of Moody Coliseum, led by the retired faculty. Faculty procession begins moving at ~9:10 a.m. following the graduation candidates, who take the floor at 9:00 a.m. Faculty remain standing until the President is seated. With respect to the removal or replacement of mortarboards, follow the lead of the President. After the playing of the University Hymn, "Varsity," the Platform Party leads the recessional, followed by the faculty in a single-file line.

Faculty Regalia
If you need academic regalia, please contact your department administrator to determine the ordering process. To ensure regalia arrives in time and to avoid any late shipping fees, orders must be placed by Thursday, November 2. After this date, the bookstore will supply faculty with in-stock SMU regalia. Faculty are encouraged to check with their department's rental policies. To process your order the following information is needed:
- Last Name
- First Name
- Height (with shoes)
- Cap Size
- Degree
- Name of school where degree was earned
- City and State of school
- Phone number where you can be reached
- Department on campus
Please provide the above information via phone, fax, email or in person at the Bookstore. If you email or fax the request, please put “To the attention of Commencement Regalia” on your request.
Regalia may be picked up from the SMU Bookstore beginning Saturday, December 9. Regalia must be returned to the Bookstore by Monday, December 18.
