New OPT Process

If you are graduating in May 2020, please read the following information.

In efforts to help facilitate the OPT application process, our office has moved the submission of Optional Practical Training work authorization request via DocuSign. At this time, students have the option to submit your request online (DocuSign) OR in person after the University resumes operational hours.

Things to keep in mind:

Students are still required to watch the Pre/Post Completion Practical Training Tutorial: https://sway.office.com/IiqAZbkYUMkZ6LDJ?ref=Link

Students are still required to complete the OPT CANVAS course.

STEP 1: STUDENT INITIATES THE REQUEST.  

Students need to have information about who their Academic Advisor is (full name and email address). 
Students will submit and attach PDF (legible) copies of the following documents: 
 

·         I765 form

·         Copy of CANVAS course

·         Copy of SEVIS fee maintenance receipt

·         Copy of visa/approval notice

·         Copy of I94 arrival document

·         Copy of passport

·         Copy of transcripts (optional)

·         Copy of check/photos (optional)

Students will also be required to initial and sign acknowledging critical compliance information regarding their OPT application.

STEP 2: ACADEMIC ADVISOR. After students submit their request, the academic advisor will be asked to verify information regarding their degree including the expected program end date. 

STEP 3: ISSS: The ISSS office will review student's application and will provide feedback. Students will receive an email when a new I20 document, which will have the OPT recommendation, is ready. The completed document will include comments made by a Designated School Official. Some of these comments may require students to correct information on their application and/or add documents to their packet.

STEP 4: STUDENT. After students pick up their new I-20, they will be asked to sign page 2 (only if everything is correct), scan and email us a copy of the signed I20.

Our office will process OPT requests submitted through DocuSign while the University is closed. Students will be contacted by their DSO about their new I20 document.
