Spring Rotunda Passage is a tradition at SMU not to be missed!
Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Students start to gather at 4:45 p.m. at the Historic Main Quadrangle (by the flagpole); Hot cider will be served. Ceremony begins at 5:15 p.m. Dinner to follow.
All new first-year and transfer students beginning SMU in the spring semester are encouraged to attend SMU's Spring Rotunda Passage. At this event, students are formally welcomed to the SMU community. Highlights of the ceremony include faculty participants in full academic regalia and the presentation of new students by SMU administration. Our Chief Faculty Marshal and Student Body President will offer inspiring words to set students on their new paths of academic discovery.
During this ceremony, students pass through the Rotunda of Dallas Hall, SMU's first building and a historic landmark. Recognizing that every undergraduate student at SMU has crossed through the Dallas Hall rotunda, students have an opportunity to reflect on their passage to college and their intellectual and personal growth for their time at SMU.
Graduating students confirm year after year that the full impact of Rotunda Passage is not felt until their graduation and the Rotunda Recessional, another SMU tradition when seniors walk through the rotunda of Dallas Hall the opposite way and their thoughts turn back to the beginning of their SMU experience.
Appropriate attire for the ceremony is business casual. Comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. Students with impaired mobility are asked to contact firstname.lastname@example.org for special arrangements prior to Spring Rotunda Passage.
Family members and friends are invited to join us for Spring Rotunda Passage. A hospitality station will be set up for participants and well-wishers. Parking is available in Daniel, Airline and Meadows Parking Centers.
It’s a special event you will not want to miss!
