Step 1: Make an appointment
Contact your degree counselor and make sure you are on track for graduation.
Did you know that a graduation application is required in order to graduate?
Contact your degree counselor immediately after you've enrolled in your final semester's classes to request a graduation appointment.
Step 2: Use your resources
Complete the Dedman College Welcome Packet Module in your Canvas profile. The Welcome Packet contains important information about your Graduation Requirements!
Keep track of your own degree progress with your Degree Progress Report (DPR)! Visit the OIT Website to learn how to access your DPR.
Track your university degree requirements with our course checklists!
Confused by your DPR? Your degree counselor can help!
Step 3: Prepare for Commencement
Complete your online graduation application (meeting with your degree counselor required for access to the application) and attend the Grad Fair to order your cap and gown, take graduation photos, order your class ring, and more!
Monitor the Academic Ceremonies Website for important information about Commencement Activities. You'll find information on the Commencement Speaker, graduation tickets, as well as important information for your guests! Information regarding tickets will be sent to your SMU email address.
Did you know that "Graduation" and "Commencement" are not the same?
Commencement refers to the ceremony, which is an opportunity for students to celebrate their academic accomplishments with their peers, family and friends. Participation in commencement does not guarantee or indicate degree completion.
Graduation is a four-step process consisting of applying for graduation, updating your diploma name and address in my.SMU, completing all academic requirements and settling all financial obligations.
