KMID

The Korea-Mongolia International Dinosaur Project (KMID) began in 2006 and was set up by Dr. Yuong Nam Lee, former SMU graduate student. With colleagues Dr. Philip Currie and Dr. Rinchen Barsbold, the project began with the cooperation of the Korea Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources and the Paleontological Center of Mongolian Academy of Sciences. The sponsor for KMID is Hwaseong City, which is located near Seoul where the largest dinosaur egg site in the Korean peninsula was found in 1999.  The fossil site is now protected by the government as a natural heritage site. The project is an historical event because it is the first multi-international dinosaur project in the Gobi Desert hosted by Korea.
