Biographical Note:

Peter Mansoor, Colonel, U.S. Army (retired), served on the Joint Chiefs of Staff Strategic Dialogue Group in 2006. Dr. Mansoor earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1995, amidst a 26-year career in the U.S. Army which culminated in his service in Iraq as executive officer to General David Petraeus during the Surge (2007-08). Before serving on the Joint Chiefs group during the Surge decision-making process, Colonel Mansoor commanded the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division from 2003 to 2005, including 13 months in combat as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-04). After his service in Iraq, Mansoor returned to the U.S. as the founding director of the U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he helped edit the counterinsurgency field manual.
