Graduate Student in History of Christian Traditions
Andrew Mercer is a doctoral fellow with the Graduate Program in Religious Studies, studying in the field of historical theology. He is currently beginning work on a dissertation which will examine the concept of the oneness of the church in Greek Christian thought from the fourth to the seventh century. In addition to patristic ecclesiology, he fields of interest include sacramental theology, systematic theology, history of biblical exegesis, and ecumenism. Prior to beginning the PhD program, he graduated summa cum laude from the Perkins School of Theology at SMU, receiving the degree of Master of Theological Studies. Before this he graduated with a B.A. in Biblical Studies and Humanities from Criswell College.
Andrew currently lives in Richardson, TX with his wife Becca and their daughter Evelyn. Outside of his academic work, he enjoys spending time in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado, attempting to keep a productive garden, and watching British television.
