Josh’s interests lie in U.S./Mexico transnational and cultural history. Specifically, he studies U.S. perceptions of Mexico in the nineteenth century. His thesis, “The ‘Mexicanization’ of the United States: Mexico in U.S. Public Discourse, 1862-1880,” evaluates the U.S. press and its use of the politically pejorative “Mexicanization.” Josh hopes to expand on his thesis while at SMU.
