In the summer of 2018, The George W. Bush Institute and the Department of Economics at SMU launched the Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative. This Initiative will leverage the strengths of both institutions to promote policy relevant research at the frontier of many fields in the Economics discipline.
As part of that effort, the Initiative is funding multiple Fellowships to attract and support world class scholars as PhD students in the Department. Bush Institute Fellows will earn a high quality education from the Department of Economics while also contributing to the policy research work of the Initiative and the Bush Institute. These Fellowships will be generously funded beginning at $27,500 a year in 2019-2020 and will be adjusted upward over time. The Fellowship will also cover a full tuition waiver and health insurance for the Fellow. The award is renewable for up to 5 years. The expectation is that one such Fellowship will be available per year with up to 3 Fellowship recipients in the program at any one time.
All those who apply to the PhD program in Economics at SMU will be considered for one these fellowships. For more information on the PhD program please see here.
