Hegi Partnership

Economics majors network with recent graduates in Fall 2015 coordinated by the Hegi Family Career Center

The Economics Department is enjoying an expanded relationship with the Hegi Career Center.  Dedicated career counselors work with Economics undergraduates, providing guidance in seeking internships and jobs.  Students find that the Center is a one-stop shopping place with a wide range of resources, including resume-building and practice interviews.  Using the resources provided by the career center, Stephon Sanders, 2015 graduate, says, “it was impossible for me not to find employment.”

Honestly, the whole job-finding experience can be a bit frustrating.  But at Hegi, you will be able to talk to someone who understands what you’re going through and can provide you the encouragement and confidence you need.      - Adam Mueller, class of 2016

During my job search as a student, Hegi became the most powerful and efficient resource at my disposal.

Carl McClain, class of 2015, took advantage of the Externship program during his first year, and applied for summer internships the following year.  He says, “Slowly, the more I interacted with the Hegi Career Center, the more confident I became about what I wanted in my first job. After attending several seminars, I increasingly focused my attention on analytics; I was able to get a position at a local oil and gas firm in Dallas through their Spring Career Fair.”  During his third and final year at SMU, Carl polished his resume, attended company open houses, formed business contacts and used MustangTRAK.  Carl notes, “I eventually found my current employer, a management consulting and data science company called MuSigma. Without the advice and guidance of the Hegi Career Center, I would have never found this fantastic opportunity, one that has sent me halfway around the world to India.”
