Previously known as the "Felix Chen Asian Studies Award," the award was renamed in 2013 in honor of the generosity of Felix Chen, a Dallas businessman and philanthropist with a long history of supporting SMU and our students' study of Asia and the Chinese language. All recipients, both past and present, are now known as Chen Scholars in recognition of our donor and their outstanding accomplishment.
The Asian Studies Faculty Council is pleased to announce the Chen Scholars Award for Asian Studies and Chinese Studies for 2017. The purpose of the awards is to increase awareness of Asia in the SMU community and to encourage students to pursue the study of Asia. In the hope of achieving these goals Felix Chen has established ten awards up to $1,500 each. The awards will be presented to the most suitable students to assist them financially in their study of Asia and China.
To be eligible for the award, students must have declared a minor in Asian Studies or Chinese Studies. Previous recipients are not eligible.
