Sydney Yeager is a doctoral candidate in cultural anthropology, specializing in the intersection of medical anthropology and the anthropology of religion. She entered the SMU cultural anthropology program in the fall of 2010. She is an honors graduate from the University of Central Arkansas where she received her BS in History with minors in Anthropology and Interdisciplinary in December of 2009. Sydney's dissertation focuses on the use of social media platforms in response to health crises and death, a global phenomenon which she examines within the context of urban centers and rural areas in the Southern United States. Additional areas of research interest include Neuroanthropology, Health and Religion, Social Media's impact on Identity, Community, and Social Relationships, Digital Technology and Distraction Related Accidents.
