Laura earned her BA in Anthropology and French from Tulane University in 2008 and her MA in Anthropology from Southern Methodist University in 2011. Currently she is working on her Ph.D. dissertation, in which she will examine the interaction of local and global forces in the lives of French Polynesian youth. The project will study how rural youth prioritize diverse influences (including family, peers, educators, and media) during times of important decision-making concerning their educations and futures, as well as how youth perceive the outcomes of these decisions. Her broader research interests include youth, globalization, identity, and cultural change.
