Nusaiba is from Garland, Texas and returned to the area after living seven years in Cleveland, Ohio where she volunteered at a refugee resettlement agency all throughout college. Before starting in the program at SMU, she worked for two years in a non-profit that advances accessible housing for people with physical disabilities. Her research interests are focused on how culture and religion impact the experiences of refugees in accessing health care in Dallas. She is especially interested in the intersections of reproductive and mental health.
