Dissertation: Pharmaceutical Territories: Contested Pharmacopoeias and Environmental Debates in Brazil
I received my BA in anthropology and psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011. My research focuses on the increasing biomedicalization of medicinal plant knowledge, use, and cultivation in Brazil. I explore the political economic context of various regimes of knowledge, especially those adopted by national and international actors such as the World Health Organization, the Brazilian government, and pharmaceutical companies. Particularly, I'm interested in how these changing knowledges affect issues of citizenship and space/place at the local level.
