Registration Instructions & Cancellation Policies

General Policies

  • Grade-level requirements for each workshop are given in terms of the grade the student will be entering in the fall. Grade-level requirements are firm, and exceptions cannot be made.
  • For Kindergarten-level workshops, all students must be 5 years old on or before June 1.
  • Workshops are limited in size, and spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register early to secure a space in your desired workshop(s) and avoid disappointment. Workshops are subject to cancellation due to insufficient enrollment.
  • Registration generally is available until 4:00 p.m. on the Thursday before a workshop begins. Online registration is encouraged.
  • Payment in full is required to finalize registration.  We do not offer payment plans or partial payment options.
  • Credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, and Discover) are accepted, along with checks made payable to SMU. Some workshops include supplies; others do not. Instructors do not accept enrollment fees nor walk-in students who are not officially registered.
  • Discounts may not be combined with any other promotion and may not be used retroactively. Discounts are subtracted from the regular registration fee.
  • The Summer Youth office must have an Authorization & Liability Release Form (see details below) on file on the first day of a child's first workshop.
  • Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation message via email.
  • Before the beginning of each workshop, you will receive an email with check-in and classroom location information, additional supplies (if required), and other details to help your child(ren) prepare for camp. Directional signs to our classrooms also are posted in the lobby for easy reference.
  • Each child receives one (1) free t-shirt each summer.
  • SMU reserves the right to substitute instructors, change workshop locations, cancel workshops, adjust curricula or schedule, or limit enrollment.

Authorization & Liability Release Form

  • The Authorization & Liability Release Form should be submitted in advance of the first workshop in which the child is enrolled.
  • Please complete one copy of the form per child each summer.
  • We prefer that you submit this for via email to smu.summer@smu.edu, but you also may fax a printed copy to 972-473-3449 or mail (in advance) to:

  • Please note that the Summer Youth office must have these forms on file on the first day of a child's first workshop. If the form has not arrived on time, it must to be completed again upon arrival before you may drop off your child for his or her first class.
  • If other arrangements can't be made, you may bring the completed form to your child’s instructor on the first day of the workshop.

Cancellation, Refund, and Transfer Policies

Should SMU cancel a workshop, you will be notified in advance and full fees will be refunded. If you have a situation that prevents your child(ren) from participating in the course for which they are registered, we will gladly assist you. Partial refund, transfer and escrow options are available to students before the first day of the course.

  • No refunds are permitted after a workshop begins.
  • No refunds are permitted due to absences from part or all of a workshop.
  • No refunds are permitted in the event that SMU must cancel individual sessions of a workshop due to inclement weather or other extenuating circumstances beyond our control.

We happily provide the following options:

  • You may request a refund. Refund requests must be made no later than 12 noon on the Monday prior to the start of a workshop (one week in advance) after which time no refunds will be issued. If you choose to cancel your registration, a $25 processing fee per workshop will be withheld from your refund.
  • Students may transfer to another summer youth course free of charge.
  • Student may elect to have tuition placed in escrow for themselves or another student free of charge. (Credit must be used by May 31 of the next calendar year)
  • Students may substitute another individual in their place free of charge.

Important Information

The SMU Summer Youth Program is not licensed by the state of Texas as a child-care facility, day-care center, or licensed before-school or after-school program or that offers child-care services. We are an educational facility that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) offering short term summer enrichment programs where children receive direct instruction in a single expertise or proficiency.  Please consult your HR department for clarification and further information about our program’s eligibility as a provider for reimbursement programs prior to enrolling.
