NetID FAQ

SMU NetID is a single sign on solution that allows CAPE students to use the same username (NetID) and password across CAPE systems.

The general process of receiving a NetID involves setting up a student account with SMU CAPE, verifying your email and setting a password, and then receiving an email containing your NetID. You can then use this NetID to log in to your student portal and CAPE Canvas account. If you forgot your SMU NetID, you can use our NetID Recovery Tool to request an email containing your SMU NetID.

If your account was created prior to December 1, 2021, you will need to transition your old account to use a SMU NetID. Follow the instructions here.

If you created an account after December 1, 2021, check your inbox for an email from comanage_noreply@smu.edu containing a link to verify your email and set a password. Once you have followed the directions in that first email, you will receive a separate email containing your NetID. If you do not receive the email with instructions to set your password or if the link does not work, reach out to smuthink@smu.edu and request that the COmanage reset link be resent to you.

If you forgot your SMU NetID, you can use our NetID Recovery Tool to request an email containing your SMU NetID.

If you still cannot find your NetID, email smuthink@smu.edu and we can provide it or troubleshoot if necessary.

Once you set up your account, you will receive a message from comanage_noreply@smu.edu to verify your email and set a password. Once you have followed those instructions, you will receive a separate email containing your NetID. Be sure to check your email’s spam folder if you do not receive either email.

Check your email’s inbox and spam folder for a message from comanage_noreply@smu.edu containing a link to verify your email and set a password. If you still do not see this email, please reach out to smuthink@smu.edu and request that the COmanage reset link be resent to you.

Under the ‘I have an SMU NetID’ section, click ‘Forgot Password’ or go directly to the Password Reset tool. Enter either the email address associated with your account or your NetID and an email will be sent to you containing a link to reset your password.

To retrieve your old username, click the ‘Forgot User Name’ link and enter the email address associated with your account. An email will be sent to you containing your username.

To retrieve your old password, click the ‘Forgot Password’ link under the ‘I don’t have an SMU NetID’ section and enter the username associated with your old account. You will receive an email containing a link to reset your password.

Please check your email’s inbox and spam folder for a message from comanage_noreply@smu.edu.

After you have set a password, you will receive another email containing your NetID. Reach out to smuthink@smu.edu with any issues.

Your NetID and password can also be used to access Canvas. If your course utilizes Canvas, you can visit this link to log in: https://www.smu.edu/CAPE/Help-Center/Canvas. Click on the ‘Log in with NetID’ button.

SMU CAPE has a separate Canvas log in page than what is used by the main SMU campus. Be sure you are attempting to log in using SMU CAPE’s Canvas log in portal here: https://www.smu.edu/CAPE/Help-Center/Canvas

Reach out to smuthink@smu.edu and provide sufficient detail about your issue and a CAPE staff member will troubleshoot and reach out to you.
