Casita Thetford - Gold

Picture of Exterior of Casita Thetford

Casita Thetford is a 1,560 square foot facility constructed on the SMU-in-Taos Campus.  The building was designed and constructed with the goal of achieving LEED Gold.

The project reached substantial completion on May 1, 2009.

Casita Thetford was substantially refurbished in 2008.  The student housing facility sleeps nine (9) in three (3) dormitory rooms.  Features include a fireplace in the common room, wireless access, and remodeled bathroom facilities.

Casita Thetford is expected to use substantially less potable water than would a facility constructed conventionally.  The building saves potable water by employing ultra-low flow lavatory faucets in bathroom sinks and housekeeping sinks.  Radiant heat is delivered via baseboard units.  Cooling is enhanced during summer through lower story windows that can be opened and closed to take advantage of mountain breezes.
