Spotlight on the Windows System Support Team

In this edition, we’ll introduce you to the members of the Windows System Support Team.  This team, under the direction of Allen Hughes, is responsible for all Windows servers in the datacenter, Active Directory and SMU Domain administration, Account provisioning, Email administration, Locker, Lync and many other services!

Windows Team 2012

Tommy Doan is the team lead for this group. He’s worked at SMU for the past 6 years.  He enjoys working with an awesome team and having a chance to make an impact on the campus.  His favorite technology gadget is PowerShell—basically a powerful programming language for system admins.  One of the strangest jobs he’s had was at a fire fighter/hazmat training center where he “learned how to blow things up.”  In his spare time, he loves playing poker.

Robert Blissitt has worked at SMU for the past 13 years.  His favorite technology is his iPod Touch.  He enjoys making disparate systems work together. He serves as a volunteer director for a large US organization in his spare time.

Sander Hickerson has worked at SMU for the past 4 years.  He loves his Android smartphone, although he’d love to get his hands on an iPad.  He enjoys working with new technology and the challenge of coordinating cross-department projects.  He feels that his bosses have trust in his abilities and value his feedback. When asked about the strangest job he’s ever had, Sander’s response was priceless: “I (Sander) once worked as a buffer with a guy named Grinder. We polished little round metal plates for candlestick holders.”  The most surprising fact is that Sander’s band won “Best Hip-Hop” at the Austin Music Awards twice!

James Lo is the newest member of the Windows team. He's worked at SMU for 3 years and enjoys the many opportunities available to keep learning and growing.  His favorite technology gadget is a Windows 7 Tablet.  The strangest job he ever had was as a telemarketer.  He only worked one day before deciding that was not for him!  In his free time, James enjoys racing and working on cars.
