Fifteenth-century Dominican Missal

[Missal. Dominican Use].
Missale Dominicanum seu Ordinis Praedicatorum.

Venice: Octavianus Scotus, 24 December 1482.
(07066)

The first missal printed for Dominican Use is significant as the initial publication of the central book of liturgical worship for the Dominican Order, one of the most influential monastic orders of Western Christianity. This volume is the earliest printed missal in Bridwell Library designed for a particular monastic order. An early example of Venetian music publishing, this edition includes four-line red-printed staves with square plainsong notation printed in black.
