La Conferencia Río Grande de la Iglesia Metodista Unida se reunió en Corpus Christi, Texas, en junio de 1971 para celebrar el centenario de la ordenación del Rev. Alejo Hernández, el primer predicador Mexicano con credenciales de la Iglesia Metodista Episcopal del Sur. En junio 7 la Conferencia dedicó un nuevo servicio en memoria del Rev. Hernández en el cementerio de Bayview. La primera tumba fue destruida por el huracán Celia en 1970.

The Rio Grande Conference of the United Methodist Church met in Corpus Christi, Texas, in June of 1971 to celebrate the centennial of the ordination of Rev. Alejo Hernandez, the first native Mexican preacher credentialed in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. On June 7 the Conference dedicated a new memorial to Rev. Hernandez (shown) in Bayview Cemetery. The previous grave marker had been destroyed by Hurricane Celia in 1970.
