Dedicated to Louis XIV, this French edition of 1652 was translated from the Brussels manuscript by Heribert Rosweyde. The edition also contains the Jesuit scholar’s life of Thomas à Kempis and handsome engravings introducing each of the four books. The fourth book, exhorting the reader to receive Holy Communion, begins with an engraving of Christ instituting the sacrament with eleven faithful apostles.
