A graduate of Huston-Tillotson College and Perkins School of Theology, minister and social activist Rev. Dr. A. Cecil Williams has served pastoral appointments in New Mexico, Missouri, and California.  From 1956 to 1959 he taught and served as chaplain at Huston-Tillotson College. During Williams’s forty-five-year ministry at Glide Memorial United Methodist Church in San Francisco, the church became an extraordinarily diverse congregation with more than 12,000 members. SMU conferred upon Williams an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 1997 and a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2009.
