Born in Slaton, Texas, James Wiley received the Bachelor of Architecture from Texas Tech University in 1950. He began his studies in bookbinding in 1973, studying with Marianna Roach and Dorothy Westapher and attending many workshops. He has taught at the Craft Guild of Dallas and works with Jan Sobota as a volunteer in the Conservation Laboratory of Bridwell Library.
