Chautauqua Institution co-founders John H. Vincent and Lewis Miller, circa 1880–1890.

Vincent (left) served as chancellor of the Chautauqua Institution until his retirement in 1915. Miller served as president until his death in 1899. Ohio industrialist and philanthropist Lewis Miller was a Methodist layman and Christian Educator who developed the “Akron Plan” of church architecture.
