Chautauqua co-founders


Chautauqua Institution co-founders John H. Vincent and Lewis Miller, circa 1880-1890. Vincent (left) served as chancellor of the Chautauqua Institution until his retirement in 1915. Miller served as president until his death in 1899. Ohio industrialist and philanthropist Lewis Miller was a Methodist layman and Christian Educator who developed the “Akron Plan” of church architecture.
