Quran.
Illuminated manuscript in Arabic on paper.
[Persia, 17th century].

Richly illuminated with gold, lapis lazuli, arsenic orange, and verdigris green on highly polished paper, this Quran was produced during Persia’s Safavid Dynasty. It is bound in gilt brown goatskin with a central gilt design over red and black leather, with the pointed envelope flap that has been characteristic throughout the Islamic bookbinding tradition.
