Stephen says SMU set him up to succeed in his career.
Even in the most favorable of conditions, entering the job market is a daunting task. Stephen Reiff decided his future was too important to leave to chance, so he sought early guidance from SMU's Hegi Family Career Development Center.
Stephen's resourcefulness paid off. Through the center's coaching, assessment and planning, he learned how to position himself effectively to employers and use the relationships he'd forged at SMU to locate internship opportunities. After landing coveted internships three summers in a row, Stephen also has a fair amount of professional experience under his belt, and he's starting a great job right after graduation.
But the classroom is where Stephen's career really began. He learned from the best — professors who offer outstanding academic knowledge and who know from experience how to apply it in professional settings. "I just can't speak enough to the quality of the professors we have here at SMU," he says. "All of them have real-world work experience, so they're able to not only teach the theory, but also apply it."
Stephen's study abroad experience at SMU-in-Australia has rounded out his resume nicely. "It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience learning about a culture and gaining global perspective," he says.
His most unforgettable moments include scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, skydiving in New Zealand, and climbing a volcano at 2 a.m. to watch the sunrise in Bali. Check out his student adventures blog.
