Java Policies
As a clarification, Java and Javascript (a.k.a. JScript) are totally different technologies. These policies only cover Java.
Client-side Java
SMU provides no assistance for client-side Java. Whether it works entirely depends on the author’s code and the instantiation in HTML. Client-side Java does not interact with the web server in any way whatsoever, so there is nothing SMU can change to fix a faulty applet.
Server-side Java
SMU only supports server-side Java for high-priority department-level situations where no reasonable alternative exists. Server-side Java is almost exclusively used for Java client/server applications. It requires custom implementation by the server administrator and specialized support from the web team.
