A noted composer, pianist and vocal coach, Simon Sargon is a graduate of the Juilliard School where he studied accompanying with Sergius Kagen. For many years he was closely associated with the late great mezzo soprano Jennie Tourel, performing with her in concerts and master classes across the country and abroad.

Sargon served on the musical staff of the New York City Opera and the Connecticut Opera, and was the assistant conductor of the Concert opera Association of New York, which gave concert performances of unknown and neglected operatic works at Philharmonic Hall.

Sargon has taught on the faculties of Sarah Lawrence College and the Juilliard School, and served as Chair of the Voice Department at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem for three years. He was the Director of Opera at SMU from 1984-1991, during which time he also served as Educational Consultant to the Dallas Opera.

Sargon's own compositions include three operas, as well as many vocal works. His song cycle, Waves of the Sea, won first prize in the NATS national competition in 1993, and is recorded on the Gasparo label.
