Honors Scholarships for Study Abroad and SMU-in-Taos

SMU-in-Taos

The University Honors Program will provide 10 Richter Research Scholarships for Honors students who have completed one full year at SMU. These scholarships will total $3,000 which will cover all expenses beyond tuition (other than tuition for taking an additional course). Additionally, the SMU-in-Taos Office will award similar scholarships for ten more Honors students. To use this scholarship, you must register for the June term of SMU-in Taos. The Taos office will appoint a faculty member who will serve as instructor of record for the 10 students enrolled in the Honors Research course. During the Taos semester in June, students will meet once a week as a class During the final week of the June semester, students will present the initial finding of their research to the class, and at the conclusion of the term, students will deliver a brief presentation to the entire campus about their research.

To be eligible for these scholarships, you must design a research proposal within the field of Southwest Studies along with your application for Taos funding. Proposals are due February 29, 2008 by 5pm.

Requirements for proposal:

1) Design a research proposal within the field of Southwest Studies along with the application for Taos funding.

2)Enlist a faculty mentor in the appropriate field who will supervise the project, review the initial project proposal, and read the final project at the end of the summer.

3) Register and complete an "Honors Study Course" to be conducted under a departmental independent study course number.

Study Abroad Scholarship

There are 20-30 scholarships available for study abroad. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must do a special research assignment within the context of one of your courses that you take abroad. Additional funds will be made available for field trips to do research beyond what you will learn in the classroom. Proposals are due February 29, 2008 by 5pm.
