DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
for students entering the program in 2007 or before

Admission to candidacy for both M.A. and Ph.D. students:

  • Core Seminar in the four broad areas of religious studies--12 semester hours
  • 12 semesters hours additional course work
  • Four comprehensive examinations in these four areas
  • Examination in a foreign language

M.A. students only:

  • Thesis
  • Oral examination covering thesis and entire course of study

Ph.D. students only:

  • Examination in one additional foreign language
    Biblical Studies students must take exams in Hebrew and Greek as well.
  • 3 semesters/36 hours field level course work
  • Four field-level comprehensive examinations
  • One-semester practice teaching
  • Dissertation
  • Oral examination over dissertation and entire course of study
