RUTH ALLEN (1889-1979), the pioneering labor historian of Texas, taught economics at the University of Texas-Austin from 1923-1959 and was the author of several influential books and numerous scholarly articles on the late-nineteenth and early twentieth-century labor movement in Texas.

Andrew Graybill, editor, is Assistant Professor of History at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he teaches courses on the North American West, the environment, and Canada.  He spent the 2004-05 academic year as a research fellow at the Clements Center for Southwest Studies, completing his first book, Policing the Great Plains: Rangers, Mounties, and the North American Frontier, 1875-1910, forthcoming from the University of Nebraska and University of Calgary presses.  He lives in Lincoln with his wife and daughter.
