The Multicultural Greek Council, or MGC, is the governing body of five fraternity and sorority chapters at SMU. Member chapters hold affiliation with various umbrella organizations such as: the North-American Interfraternity Conference, and the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, Inc. MGC is a student-run organization that exists:
- To promote the interests of the University, which include scholarship, leadership and citizenship.
- To promote the interests and unity of the Greek organizations represented on campus.
- To promote the interests of college fraternities and sororities in general, which includes the consideration that they are viable and valuable collegiate experiences.
- To facilitate communication and cooperation between member fraternities and the University administration and faculty.
The Multicultural Greek Council organizes activities in which its member fraternities participate, such as community service, recruitment events, educational programs, and leadership development.
Some of the highlights of MGC involvement include Recruitment, New Member Showcase, Community Service Day, Salsa Night, Sushi Night, All-Greek Picnic, attending the Minority Greek Leadership Conference, opportunities to attend national leadership development conferences like the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute and Leadershape, and hosting the Special Olympics Texas Volleyball Tournament for Dallas.
