Department
of STATISTICAL SCIENCE
Financial Aid
The Department of Statistical Science offers an outstanding array of teaching assistantships and research assistantships, awarded on the basis of academic achievement.
TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS:
Most full-time graduate students in the department receive teaching assistantships.
These awards waive all costs of tuition and fees and pay a stipend of $13,500 per academic
year. The stipend is usually paid in 10 installments beginning August 30.
Teaching assistants typically conduct introductory sections in statistics or carry out
some equivalent function.
DEAN'S AWARD:
The Department also offers a Dean's Award to outstanding candidates. This award increases
the base assistantship amount by $2500. The award is renewable on a yearly basis
with a maximum of three years support.
RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP:
Advanced graduate students who have demonstrated superior ability are awarded
research assistantships. Research assistants frequently receive financial
support for work in the summer as well as for the academic year. These range
from $2,500 to $5,000 for the
summer. Often, they also have the opportunity to present their research at
scientific meetings and submit research articles to professional journals.
OTHER SUPPORT:
Students wanting summer support typically have found teaching or other on campus jobs. Additional industrial internships (made possible by special
arrangements with local employers) are available.
