Honors Convocation 2007!

 

Honors Day Convocation is a ceremony that celebrates academic achievement at the University and Department levels.  Please join us on Monday, April 23rd as we honor the 2007 recipients.

Honors Day Convocation Speaker – Harold W. Stanley

“Building an SMU Honors Community”

Harold W. Stanley holds the Geurin-Pettus Distinguished Chair in American Politics and Political Economy in the SMU Department of Political Science. He came to SMU in Fall 2003 from the University of Rochester, where he chaired the Political Science Department. He began his teaching career at Yale University in 1979. Dr. Stanley earned a Bachelor’s degree magna cum laude and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale.  He received a Rhode’s Scholarship for study at Oxford, where he earned a Master’s degree.  Among his numerous scholarly publications are his books titled Vital Statistics on American Politics 2005–2006 and Voter Mobilization and the Politics of Race: The South and Universal Suffrage, 1952 –1984. Dr. Stanley's current research focuses on presidential nominations, partisan change, and voting rights. He has frequently served as an expert witness in federal court cases on voting rights and redistricting. 

At SMU, he is leading the Task Force on the University Honors program, examining related academic programs and the development of an honors community, to enrich the campus experience for our highest achieving students, like you.
