Top Rope Belay Test and Lead Test

The Top Rope Belay Test is a non-instructional or coaching test of the required skills and knowledge to top rope belay climbers and safely participate at the SMU Climbing Center.  Successful completion is required to obtain a Top Rope Approved Climber Card or ACC.  Instructors will prompt for properly demonstrated technical skills and climbing knowledge.  Belay tests will be on demand and dictated by staff availability. Individuals are only allowed to Belay Test once in 24 hours.

Individuals 14 and older may obtain a top rope ACC.  Possession of the top rope ACC provides free access to the Climbing Center for 1 year and use of SMU Climbing Center belay devices.  A top rope ACC expires 1 year to date of issue and must be renewed by successfully completing the Belay Test.
